Copyediting - A copyeditor's job is to make sure a piece of writing is clear, coherent, consistent, and correct. I will look at large-scale issues such as paragraph flow and overall argument. I will also look at minutia such as word choice, punctuation, and consistency of details throughout your text. My goal is to improve the reader's experience without changing the writer's style or tone. I will work with you to improve your writing, keeping track of my changes and suggestions along the way.

Proofreading - A proofreader's job is to review a fully formatted or typeset text to check for last-minute errors. Some of my favorite proofreading saves have been finding periods that were one or two font sizes too large. As a proofreader, my job is no longer to improve writing but rather to provide intensely focused attention on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting.

I have experience working with the following style guides:

  • The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)

  • American Medical Association (AMA)

  • American Psychological Association (APA)

  • The Associated Press Stylebook (AP)

I can follow your in-house style guide or suggest one to fit your project.

Rates - When you contact me I will ask to review a sample of your work. From there, I will be able to provide you with a project-based estimate. My rates are aligned with the Editorial Freelancers Association rates chart, found here: https://the-efa.org/rates

"Hunter is a fantastic editor, with an exacting attention to detail while still keeping the scope of the larger work in the back of their mind. An absolute joy to work with."

"I came to Hunter with a draft of a novel I had struggled with for years and was attempting to breathe new life into. Hunter effortlessly helped me combine the gems from the older pieces with the filigree of the new sections, blending it all seamlessly into one beautiful book. Hunter's came at my Frankenstein's monster of a novel with a remarkable eye for detail, an impressive sensitivity to style and content, and an invigorating promptness. The book was greatly improved, and I am forever grateful. Hunter is everything you could want in an editor."
